The internet is way more decentralized than a lot of people think. It's only been in the past 15-20 years or so that the large cloud providers had a hand in centralizing most things built on top of it... including the other end of DNS.

I’ve had a good experience with vlpds. Since it’s based entirely around S3 as a store, it makes ops easier than other options. I’ve done extensive testing on failover and other scenarios, really solid. github.com/jazware/vlpds

The Sqlean project (an extended function library for SQLite) started by collecting different SQLite extensions from around the internet, refactoring them into domain modules, and adding tests. That worked pretty well — some people found Sqlean helpful in their work.
