it has a sort of academic, european surrealist approach that feels rigid, if that makes sense? it doesn't feel trailblazing in its design as much as i like it on paper

it's such an on-the-nose shot, but. laura dern bleeding out on the sidewalk, the camera crane gliding in the shot as all the actors leave the stage, and the way the light switch stuns the frame's exposure like a flashbang. really really evocative. lovely looking film.

texture-wise, i think this might be my favorite lynch film. total conjunctive death. take the flesh and scrap the bones. the digital camera accentuates the verisimilitude into something that feels so voyeuristic and evil. and the tightening and loosening of the mise-en-scène feels corruptive
