I’ve seen all the “we have data centers, they’re called libraries, etc” posts. Hear me out: we *turn* data centers into subsidized book storage facilities. Anyone in bookworld will tell you that storage is a big issue. Also we take over Amazon trucks to nationalize interlibrary loan.
Show Postwhen people dismiss the arts but leftish-ly, they've forgetting that the arts are also full of workers, most of whom aren't rich.
Show Posti feel VERY strongly about this since my parents and brother all work in technical theater, and it's precarious work. my brother is a welder so things are steadier, but most of my childhood, my parents stitched together their FT jobs with additional gigs constantly.
Show Postit's also vital to sustaining the arts itself. so much of theater, film, music, etc, is created by not just the artist(s), but the legion of techs that make it happen- which is a part that's even less well-paid and your average rich kid isn't as likely to pursue as the parts on the stage.
Show PostIt deeply disturbs me how many otherwise liberal and leftist people are willing to just accept a future where only the children of the wealthy can pursue the arts. That’s bullshit. We can do better than that.
