I was trying to find an image of Partrick Stewart from Excalibur, and got lost in how much great stuff he was doing in that movie, and then rapidly realised that was one movie, and very much not one of his big, core works and I'm still lost in it. What a talent and body of work.

A couple of hours later, and I'm still gutted over it. I don't usually get this broken up over celebrity deaths, but damn it, Sir Patrick was special. Not to mention, he's been a big part of my life for close to 50 years, ever since I first saw him in "I, Claudius" in the late 70s.

He was excellent in everything he did. As Sejanus, Karla, Gurney Halleck, Prof Charles Xavier, Jean-Luc Picard of course, and many more. And by all accounts a genuinely good person in real life. I was fortunate to see him perform twice at the RSC: as Prospero in The Tempest, and Claudius in Hamlet.
