Hi are you checking if the people sharing these have been getting permission from authors to repost their work? Because "oh we asked people to please leave kudos later uwu" isn't going to cut it if someone's uploading my writing onto a public platform without asking me.
Show Posti fear i've already seen people saying they intend to leave these drives up though, aka permanently reposting a fic outside of the author's control. if ao3 gave authors an option to turn off downloading after this i bet a lot of them would fucking take it and i wouldn't blame them at all
Show Postif the argument is that "posting" = "consent to being reposted" then i hope they enjoy it when a lot of ppl never post fic publicly ever again. is that really the level of entitlement we're working with right now? thinking you have a right to read fic that trumps authors' rights over their own work?
Show Postsaying that people consented to have this happen to their work by posting it on ao3 is like saying that every artist consents to have their work stolen because they posted it on a site that has "right click -> save" available. saving is meant to be for your PERSONAL FILES, not public redistribution.
Show Postposting someone's fic without permission. & if done without knowing if they had it archive-locked, without knowing WHY they had it archive locked, could be exposing their work to bots that gdrive is not protected against like ao3, & could even open the author up to be found by a stalker or harasser
