5. Do they model CO2 emissions associated with exported fossil fuels? Typical accounting assigns zero responsibility to the US for exported emissions: "Fossil fuel exporters don't emit CO2, people who burn exported fossil fuels emit CO2." I believe this value judgment is worth thinking through.
Show Post4. Do they model domestic methane emissions from fossil fuel infrastructure? In this Energy Policy paper, I estimated annual methane emissions from US oil and gas infrastructure at ~1 Gt under the 100-year global warming potential and ~2.8 Gt under GWP20. Not small! US energy-related CO2 is 4.9 Gt.
Show Post3. Do they model public health or mortality impacts from fossil fuel air pollution? Recent peer-reviewed studies attribute hundreds of thousands of excess American deaths per year to fossil fuel air pollution. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... www.bmj.com/content/bmj/...
Show Post2. Do they model BAAJA potentially increasing demand for electricity or fossil fuel direct use? BAAJA might accelerate siting or interconnection of large loads, such as data centers, increasing electricity demand and associated emissions. BAAJA might also influence domestic fuel prices and demand.
Show Post1. Do they model the electricity sector only, or the whole energy system? Electricity is important to energy transition efforts, and the main topic of my teaching and research, but today comprises only 18% of US final energy. BAAJA would also affect the other 82%, which fossil fuels dominate.
