I think this can be communicated effectively. Some thought that corruption couldn't be made a salient issue this year, but it has been. We just have to be smart and clever about our communication strategies.

From that POV it’s not “well we need to rebalance the court after republicans held a seat open for a year after Scalia died,” it’s “oh right we need to fight those guys because fuck those guys.”

“It’s bad that they’ve purged the civil service” does fit together with “we need to purge them from the civil service” but without explanation many won’t get, they’ll both look like purges.

That last point is one that’s critical here and that too many gloss by: a lot of the hard-nosed stuff we need to fix this is going to be attacked as, and plausibly perceived by some marginally attached people as, doing the same thing in reverse.
