I'm very curious if the OTW will make a statement about the situation, considering that most people don't seem to understand their TOS and copyright law. Would be nice to see them take the side of the authors for once.

I think it would be really cool for authors to do some kind of symbolic protest when AO3 comes back, to highlight how author-unfriendly fandom as a whole has become. I only have a few vague ideas right now, and of course staging an AO3 protest in a way that doesn't break OTW rules would be hard.

bonus points - ask questions or engage with their wips or thoughts. most of us do not post in a vacuum or to the void. the whole POINT is the community and the keyboard smashing or the riffs/the "yes, and"s

we all feel it, and there are many things to attribute it to, but the best things you can do to make a writer feel seen and appreciated is to read their work and let them know you like it. that's the bare minimum!

i have a lot of. thoughts. about how disproportionate the reaction to ao3 being down feels vs how little readers interact with their favorite writers this has been an ongoing downward trend regardless of fandom and is why many of us are honest about the reality of being a fic writer in these times
