But a big gdrive? All that stuff is now fully outside of the author's control, being shared publicly where they can't delete or modify it if needed for harassment or doxxing reasons, and fed to the AI-training machine. Maybe they didn't realize the consequences but it's such an asshole move.

Like, downloading fics for offline personal backup is fine. Sharing with one or two friends on a service that respects privacy and doesn't scan for AI training, while AO3 is down, is generally alright unless an author has asked people not to.

There's someone in a ship server I'm in sharing gdrives full of other people's fic and it is taking everything I have to not scream at them b/c there's an exchange in there I'm signed up for and I don't want to be kicked out for the tirade I'd go on.

Its such a simple matter of personal boundaries… someone can be okay with something someone else is not, and just because someone is more tolerant of something like this doesn’t make them superior…? its a very reasonable thing to dislike
