Any time you have an online system where it's possible to make money through actions that don't involve other people spending money (so page reads in KU, or downloads/ratings/boosts on 3D printing sites) you immediately will have people trying to hack the system to get money for nothing.

Ironically, the 3D printing sites have a lot of the same problem as KU has had, and it's been funny watching MakerWorld and now Snapmaker's Space try to figure out how to create incentive structures for uploading your designs without making them easily exploitable for scammers.

And the reason I suspect that is that they are starting to make moves to rebrand KU into Kindle+ and I suspect we may be on the eve of whatever KU3 is going to look like. (as someone who was there for the KU1 -> KU2 transition, oh boy strap in)

But it's messy right now! The KU ecosystem has been a problem for a decade with the get rich quick folks just trying to force out content to try to get page reads, and the AI made that easier. But it made KU less valuable to a lot of readers, I suspect.

It's kind of ironic that so many people constantly argue that romance will be the easiest to replace with AI because it's so formulaic, but that's just the ignorance of people who have never tried to write a compelling emotional journey inside that formula. You gotta BRING THE FEELS.
