you may know about smashing your garlic with the side of a knife and your palm for easy peeling if you're doing some fine preparation (mince, press, etc.) but with some practice lighter rolling pressure with the same technique can loosen the peel just as well with minimal damage to the clove

this isn't a "try this and see if you like it" thing it's more or less universal. you're not trying to make a lemony sauce, you're hitting something rich with acid to brighten and balance it, and it's almost always appropriate
