but we choose art because it's the most pleasurable way to do so, and that pleasure is very important for humans to not go crazy, imo. reading a museum blurb that reduces a very emotional artwork to a very clinical description of causes and effects actually makes it less potent

--that surrounds art academically seems to deliberately ignore pleasure entirely. art is created to defend, empower, deconstruct, resignify, etc., but more often than not you can defend, empower, deconstruct, resignify more effectively in other ways. art is rarely the most useful path, really

ok I think I narrowed down why I'm at odds with how art is discussed/described in the current era: I believe all art has a fundamental pleasure component (this doesn't necessarily mean it creates positive emotions, there's also pleasure in fear, sadness and discomfort), but the discussion--
