Sam Atman's the kind of person that, if he got murdered in an old detective TV series, when the detective says, "Who might have wanted him dead?" his captain just hands him the 'phone book.
Show PostCSI has apparently done damage to the criminal justice system because juries have completely erroneous understandings of how forensic science actually works.
Show PostI know it’s NCIS (apparently these are different shows) but after a certain point when people think this is real you really can’t keep blaming the media for it. That said, actors on a screen aren’t doing the same thing, psychologically, as controlling a computer avatar.
Show PostYeah, I don’t watch these shows so I don’t know the difference between them. You are 💯 right that immersing yourself as an avatar is not the same. The cultural impact of a successful TV show like 24, though, is much broader than a video game (and I say that as a gamer).
Show PostYep. And there’s directionality to consider. Scalia used 24 to justify his defenses of torture, but I don’t think 24 caused him to believe torture is good, you know?
