You are missing the bigger picture. Night trains are negligible for short distances, but crucial to enable longer distance rail trips. Also e.g. nightjet has a dual purpose. It has 2 seat cars serving shorter sections in the late evening and early morning Intercity style. E.g. Vienna - Salzburg.

That’s crazy. The reaction time alone at 200kmh for a train driver would be 400 meters 😳

I've done the journey three times this year (two times Budapest/Belgrade, once in the oth. direction). It's fine. Just slow-going between Szeged and Subotica and the trains on that stretch aren't frequent in case you end up late in Szeged due to a missed train in Belgrade.

Good to see the emphasis on the systemic nature of the part of the causal factors. The Spanish Authorities should be aware that in the same set of circumstances, that part of the 'accident' would happen again. Systemic failures aren't random.

It does no good to throw around accusations of sabotage when there is no evidence of sabotage. Cock-up is more likely than conspiracy. Let the investigators do their job unhindered, without fanning the flames and provoking further public unrest.
