I haven't seen a lot of freaking out on Bluesky, mostly just olds like me talking about the drama and people freaking out but that might just be the circles I travel in too.

One thing has become apparent to me is that some of the folks I thought were joking about how dire life would be while AO3 was down . . . were not actually joking. I mean, I was kidding when I thought it was a 12 hour outage, linking to the song "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You?" etc.

It is a bit bizarre. If people are in it for romance (or porn) there are books out there! Depending on their fave fandoms, there are legit tie-in novels. And of course there are other fanfic archives and places people post fic (like Dreamwidth & Tumblr). (And AO3 won't be down forever.)

I think people who have been reading fic since well before AO3 came along are probably a lot more chill because we know there have always been fanworks and ways to circulate them and find other fans to talk to (though for some of these people it isn't actually about the latter I guess).

And they can't use Open Library or Project Gutenberg or, IDK, literotica or nifty or other fanfic sites because.... reasons. I could definitely understand perhaps a lot of people not having access specifically to literotica or nifty, of course, for censorship reasons.
