@boringviewer.bsky.socialYeah, what we learn about the fall of the Protheans makes pretty clear the Reaper element-of-surprise was fairly crucial. They don't have it this time and that provides the necessary explanation for a 'unite the tribes' approach to winning the Final Battle. No Crucible required.
Show PostPart of the reason I think ME2 is the best remembered entry in the series is that it has that cause-and-effect structure: if you recruit all of the companions and then do their quests, that enables you to succeed maximally in the final challenge. I'd have structured ME3 the same way.
Show PostJust with the added layer of complexity that you'd have both companion loyalty missions to do and also need to lock down key allies to help in the final battle against the reapers. With a fairly blunt 'the ending is better the more you have, with a golden ending if you have as many as possible.'
Show PostOddly, I think the ending of ME3 might have been more satisfying without the Catalyst/StarChild and the Crucible - if beating or not beating the Reapers was a pure product of the alliances you made, reflecting the sum total of your choices.
