The trade unions should be upping the temperature here. It’s entirely legitimate for them to use party channels to complain about a scheme that disadvantages their members but privileges the rich and creates an effective class of gastarbeiter
Show PostAbsolutely sick of this government’s economically harmful and flat-out racist immigration policy. These are workers, you are a Labour party, you should be working every minute of the day to improve their lot.
Show PostIt's also just illogical. If it's bad to treat care workers that way (which it is) then why is it OK for lab technicians or others legally here who don't mean the new salary thresholds?
Show PostI'd also note there is absolutely *zero* political cost, and both economic and political upsides, to simply not applying any changes retrospectively! The Times, Tories and the whole spectrum of xenophobes/racists in commentariat/media will cry betrayal anyway. Why try, and fail, to appease them?
Show PostLabour is the reason we went from seeing the UK as the place for our family to actively working on a plan B. Not the Tories. Labour. At least with the Tories there was the hope that a post-Tory Labour gov would change things. Instead we got even more racist policies under Labour.
