Sadly @the-independent.com has cancelled its cryptic crossword. Yesterday's puzzle no. 12,502 by Eimi was the last original puzzle. However, the website carries a puzzle today - a reprint by my colleague Atrica, no. 11,561 - which some people might think is a breathtakingly shitty thing to do.

Every so often a 'crossword word' escapes into real life - I spotted SCYE in February. And now a real-world use of ETUI. The panel is from a box containing a single malt which has its recycling instructions, for no obvious reason, in French. And ETUI here means 'box'.
