You've hit on something very real and it's about asymmetrical access to information - something humans have leveraged for millennia, usually/often combined with violence, to profit from other humans. Egg price gouging is violence. Perhaps the real singularity is humanity coming together to end this?

Every time there is a crisis, large corporations make out like bandits. For instance: bird flu threatening egg production? Egg prices soar, United Egg members make record profits. A few years later, maybe they pay some mild sums to settle antitrust suits with other large corporations.
