Paid visit to Oxford Street. Not to buy anything, you understand but to exercise my right as a freeborn Englishman to wander around aimlessly on the bit that is now, according to some black cab drivers, an act of vandalism worse than anything the Nazis ever did. Let's hope it lasts a thousand years.

A map reading error on a walk ?3 years ago meant escorting my kids along that road. I think there was a narrow pavement most/all of the way but it was loud and scary with cars going past at high speed. We diverted off at the first possible path. Speed limits in the Peak District are too high.

In the New Forest Hampshire have replaced all national speed limits with 40mph on all side roads (not perfect but a start). You just have to care. But Reform UK controlled Derbyshire do not give a damn about your safety as a pedestrian.

A dream became reality. Oxford Street is pedestrianised! Huge thanks to the previous Labour administration in Westminster Council, the Mayor of London & Nabeel Khan at OSDC for making it happen. Wandering down to the new car-free stretch was a joy! Calm, peaceful, quiet & so many smiling faces.
