With all due respect I think you’re wrong on this. I worked at Microsoft: it is run with compassion as far as big tech companies are concerned. Giving people an option to leave without the baggage of any performance implications as tech is massively disrupted is above and beyond. Buyouts > layoffs.

They don't expect 60K to leave. They think about 3K will opt in, and are giving them a chance to self-select in certain groups. I'm not a shill for tech companies. I dislike how workers are now treated by this and other industries. But 60K are not getting terminated. Yet, anyway.
