Kantha is a similar technique, but using a running stitch and larger scraps of material. Chindi is the leftover of the leftover. By making cloth in this way, the resources used to grow cotton, spin yarn, and weave fabric are not wasted. Left is kantha; right is chindi.

Speaking of Gen X fashion, I find myself in possession of a slouchy, oversized menswear overcoat that is roomy in the shoulders but comes down to my ankles. And I feel like the only way I can make it work is with a popped collar and loosely tied high-tops.
