If you saw my posts on firing our ‘medieval’ kiln this week, you might like to see the results. All are exact copies of original medieval tiles, made as authentically as possible from clays dug on the same site as the kiln, and using hand-carved wooden blocks. Aren’t they beautiful?

More concerningly it does require me to print the second leaf of the Good King cards recto and verso on the same day, which is something of a high risk procedure. Anyway! Tune in tomorrow for another episode of “it never quite goes the way you thought, does it??”

Hurray! Now, though, I have a whole over-height forme. There followed a dozen or more cycles of adjustments to the press to try to get the impression depth light enough to be acceptable. By about half past three I had it as good as it is going to get, I think.

So! Finished printing the fronts of all the bauble cards. Hurray! That just leaves the inside greeting on this design, which will be this rather lovely vintage printing plate design, and then the colophon on the backs.

It is actually weirdly emotional to see these start to come off the press with all three layers complete. There were many moments in the last three months when I genuinely suspected this design was going to be unprintable.
