The Conversion Practices Bill absolutely SHOULD protect trans people from therapists who deliberately seek to change or suppress their identities, including through manipulative therapeutic techniques or intentional, ideologically motivated obstruction. Anything less is a dereliction of duty!

If a therapist deliberately keeps a trans patient in a therapeutic “holding pattern”, not because further assessment is clinically necessary, but because they personally oppose transition, that deserves scrutiny. Professional authority must NEVER be used to impose ideological beliefs on patients.

Conversion practices don’t necessarily involve overt coercion. They can involve endless questioning, pathologising someone’s identity, or keeping them trapped in a perpetual cycle of assessments, with no intention of ever allowing them to move forward. This is the playbook used by ‘GC’ therapists.
