The use of the leopard skin appears to have originated in royal households during 1st & 2nd Dynasties most often worn by the king’s son rather than a formalised priestly role By 3rd Dyn references to a figure known as the “shem” appear, possibly connected to the figure of Sameref, “the beloved son”
