Two of the only pieces of advice I’ll give any new lawyer—make it a financial priority to do whatever you can to create an emergency fund, & live beneath your salary. Even well-paid lawyers can suddenly become unemployed, & a financial cushion can give you the power to walk away if things look bad.

And even if you do want to assert your patent: It's expensive to challenge bad patents. Litigation is extremely expensive. And the Squires PTO is making it harder to use the cheaper (but not cheap) administrative challenge mechanisms.

Remember that not all patents are meant to be asserted in court. People get patents for all kinds of reasons.
