It feels like what "Deep Space Nine" would have been if it WASN'T a Star Trek show and just LET everyone be at each other's throats all the time and it's genuinely pretty interesting in that regard. It's still not quite "Babylon 5" but it has a little different flavor, different use of the setup.

ANYWAY I surprised myself with how Actually Good I found this one last time, like everyone leaves it off their lists and such but I think it's successful by not pretending that something's not wrong. All the drama comes from Odo being poorly positioned to DO something about it, and overcoming that.

I cannot get over the strangeness of these random Klingon cameos to say "see see we are a star trek too!" before they go ham on being The Motherfucking Klingon Show in season 4. I'm completely unable to disconnect from that, metafictionally speaking. I can't imagine how it plays to a newbie.
