bsky.app/profile/ryan... Looks like you’re right!
Show PostYea I grew up outside Cleveland and the prices THERE have increased dramatically! The flip side of “rust belt is cheaper than the coasts” is that well yea, incomes are a lot lower there too!
Show PostWill’s point that New York is not the whole country is obviously correct, but you know Amherst has a housing crisis and it isn’t exactly Manhattan. I don’t know what the precise number of people living in affected areas are. I’m in one of them but could just afford to buy our way into a place
Show PostPretty clearly to me the answers are 1) No. 2) Yes, very much so! We’re losing out on a ton of economic growth, it’s bad for national politics, and mobility for economic opportunity is an important positive good! 3) It seems like prices have increased pretty substantially in every metro!
Show PostI think it’s useful to separate specific claims here: 1) are people w regional median-or-better HHI in HCoL metros “struggling” bc they can’t buy a home? 2) is it bad *for the whole country* that housing in the most productive metros is super pricey? 3) are housing prices too high in other metros?
