This is St. John's Wood near Lecarrow, Roscommon, on the western shore of Lough Ree. Only 260 acres, it's one of the few remaining portions of original forest in Ireland. (Whether there's any *truly* primeval forest left in Ireland, a country once almost wholly forested, is debated.)
