I am British and grumpy. Tories, Brexit and most other things make me grumpy. I'm a ridiculous blue rectangle in a silly green hat and I demand to be taken seriously! Born 1970s Unable to age verify so no DMs danielrigal.co.uk @DanielRigal@mastodon.social

It would be nice if EU nations could impose some economic sanctions on the UK over its failings on Convention rights.
Show PostAbsolutely. It’s not the law. It’s a horribly bad faith perversion of it, that I say brings the whole British justice system into disrepute.
Show Postunfortunately, there is no clear route to having the case seen by the ECHR. the original court case was lost by the scottish government, and a government cannot appeal to the ECHR. you'd need to have a case litigate in the opposite direction, up to the SC to be able to appeal it
Show Postbut, given the SC has already ruled on the law in question, getting it hear again on the same law is highly unlikely trans people were screwed over by the scottish government's absolute failure to effectively defend the case, and the SC's decision to selectively hear evidence
Show PostYep instead were expected to believe that the Labour Party and then the Lib Dem’s brought in a trans segregation law and that no one realised for a decade and a half. Also that despite all of the rhetoric at the time being about trans equality and integration as default.
