Business archivist by day; rowing club archivist by night. So, quite a lot of 19th and 20th century British history, and grumbling about digital and A/V preservation. Not the UNICEF spokesman. Be nice, I'm trying my best.

I think a lot of NuTrek (i.e. DISCO-and-after) *does* get this, albeit in a somewhat more fainthearted way. (Obviously there are, um, some catastrophic departures from it as well.) But no other Trek property was as absurdly, unapologetically committed to it as TNG.
Show Postthe thing i come back to, over and over--which stuff like LOWER DECKS got, and so much other latter-day trek has forgotten--is that the whole idea of trek is that they exist in a genuinely horrifying universe, but *choose* to pursue peace and diplomacy anyways... and it works.
Show Postwhat's funny about this is that if peltola wins the media narrative will be "peltola overcame a devastating scandal" and if she loses it will be "peltola was sunk by a devastating scandal" and not one pundit will ask themselves whether this actually mattered at all.
Show PostOoooof ….. I have many uninformed thoughts on this but my main one is that maybe Google gave up on a great product (core search) way too early ….
