Shocking to see the statue in D.C.'s Thomas Circle has been cleaned ("cleaned"?) to reveal the underlying bronze. Were preservationists involved? I am NOT an expert on bronze sculpture in general or this one in particular but I thought the verdigris patina was desirable & protective. Before/after:
