Not sure you realise how insane this comes across but it certainly doesn’t do you any favours to just state things that are demonstrably incorrect to even a casual observer!
Show PostClose to what I guessed would happen: exemption for existing care workers, drop from 15 to 10 years for most and, I suspect, a load of other exemptions or ways to get that number back to 5 years. It's not enough. The changes remain economically, morally and politically wrong.
Show PostI’m guessing everyone to the economic right of ‘Marx’ is a Thatcherite to some. In reality I agree with a lot of what Burnham says about the folly of pure unfettered free markets but then I don’t hear what realistic solutions to that would be against our current constraints.
Show PostHe’s right in that making public utilities only really answerable to shareholders who don’t care one jot (nor should they) about the quality of said service is unsustainable really. But equally it’s not conceivable a state with no money or capital will fix them like magic.
Show PostAnd Blair like ‘third way’ which Burnham sometimes hints at is probably not feasible in current global and local economic situation. I mean ‘invest in Britain’s failing water infrastructure because we’ve run out of options’ is not the same pitch as 2001.
