Me and my partner, both public sector workers, can afford our new market rate apartment. As do the barista who lives above me and the tradesman who lives on my floor. This is because my market rate apartment rents for around 80% AMI in Sacramento. The inner-Bay Area =/= the world
Show PostThe leftist housing orgs also just completely swamp the YIMBY movement in total donations. It’s gotta be at least 10:1. PolicyLink is bringing in literally 10x what California YIMBY brings in. The YIMBY movement is *very* grassroots and poorly funded compared to its detractors from the left.
Show PostThis aside though, generally the leftist housing orgs get way more money from mainline foundations that are familiar to anybody who grew up listening to NPR – Robert Wood Johnson, Rockefeller, Kresge, Ford. Plus the California healthcare conversion foundations. And the YIMBY money is CG and AV.
Show PostI HATE these thermoplastic markers. They’re like a quarter-inch thick. I spend like 20% of my mental energy biking in NYC trying to avoiding riding over them. Maybe they were necessary when bike lanes were new in NYC, but now they need to find gentler and subtler ways of demarcating bike lanes.
