Ezra Pound defined a lot of how the west sees chinese mythology (including journey to the west!) and he did not speak a fucking word of chinese. yet, his work is some of the most preserved! its nuts
Show Postwe have a very.. abrahamic? view of it almost. we fail to realize it as its own thing subconciously. Matteo ricci's story interest me as he was a jpriest who lived in china in the 1600s and wrote extensively but we didnt find it till ~400 years later and gave more depth to what we thought we knew
Show PostYESSS i remember going through an excerpt from tha tbefore when iw as trying to learn more about this topic! (though a lot of it has faded from my mind lol) ive learned that its not that all attempts to bring information about these cultures to western eyes is bad faith, its moreso that (1/2)
Show Postall it would take to say something very cool and meaningful is to actually give a fuck about asian culture! so i hope they take the high road.
