Yeah, they’re funny, they’re entertaining, but they’re still just American stories written and performed by Americans with zero relation to Madagascar aside from the name. We essentially feel no different towards those movies than we feel towards Shrek, Frozen, or Despicable Me.

It's a bit more nuanced than "fortune telling is illegal in New Zealand". Pretending to be a medium with the intent to deceive is illegal. Paid "readings" are commonplace. A clairvoyant crime-solving show was a hit a few years back (no, they didn't solve a single crime )

I love "Accusing someone of being a witch is illegal" in particular. It means you can practice witchcraft but nobody is allowed to call you out on it.
