Our parties aren’t going to do this for us because basically they can’t. The fight precedes the people we choose to represent us because we as a polity need to have as close to zero tolerance for this horseshit as possible. Make them know that they will pay for it with their (political) lives.

Like it’s hokey when Obama says we are the ones we’ve been waiting for but goddammit, it’s true. We need to convince our friends and neighbors and relatives that this shit matters and that Trump isn’t a one off in the Republican Party and what they’re doing is repulsive.

The press is indifferent to democracy and the Republican Party is actively hostile to it. I really believe the only path here is to cultivate a widespread civic religion that reacts with visceral disgust at any person or institution that seeks or facilitates undermining democracy.
