but the whole goddamn premise of trek--yes, including TOS--is that with science, reason, teamwork, faith, honesty, openness--all those old-fashioned liberal virtues--you can overcome these horrifying obstacles, overcome violence, overcome war and destructions
Show Postthe thing i come back to, over and over--which stuff like LOWER DECKS got, and so much other latter-day trek has forgotten--is that the whole idea of trek is that they exist in a genuinely horrifying universe, but *choose* to pursue peace and diplomacy anyways... and it works.
Show PostThe starkest thing about TNG compared to most space opera today is how much it presents the eruption of violence as a total catastrophe, rather than something awesome bsky.app/profile/norm...
Show PostWhat a contrast with the ideology of Trump and Vance (ably discussed by @jamellebouie.net: youtu.be/m_1htfesI64?...), to insist all non-white Americans must be 'grateful,' as if America isn't AES's native home - he was born in Michigan! El-Sayed is the true American. Trump and Vance are the fakes.
Show PostMan, obviously I'm not in Michigan and maybe AES and I might have different policy preferences on, like, the right marginal tax rate but damn is it hard not to like the guy and the way he wraps himself in the Constitution, in our best traditions here is how all of our politicians should sound.
