And it is not lost on me that this particular case is probably getting so much attention because the state's victim is a white woman. One of the horrors of the death penalty in the US is how extremely disproportionately it is used against people of color, especially Black people.

Whether it "goes wrong" or not, execution by the state is not consistent with a humane, morally sound society.

not to quote myself but this always happens because media executives are bad at their jobs. the big dumb ideas they insisted would change the world six months ago have played out, they still have no idea how to make money, and YOU'RE out of a job bc they need to make the spreadsheet look nice.
