We’ve both been struggling a lot health-wise this year, so originally we were just going to refine the carousel mechanism and reprint it in a single piece now that we have a big enough 3D printer to do that. But then this week she decided she really wanted the button to be illuminated.

2025 switched from the single cup tipping candy down the tube to a revolving carousel of open-bottomed cups atop a piece of cardboard. Each time the button was pushed the carousel would advance to the next cup, dropping the candy through an opening in the cardboard. It was extremely Mad Scientist.

In 2023 Feral Teenager decided it needed to be automated. We added a plastic cup attached to a servo with duct tape, which was in turn attached (with more duct tape) to a paint stirrer attached to the tube. A button at the curb made the servo tip the cup forward so the candy fell into the tube.

2021 we upgraded to a piece of PVC pipe that I rummaged out of the basement. Baby Zoe was very helpful. (She was eight weeks old so most of our energy that year went to saying “WHAT’S IN YOUR MOUTH?” approximately eleven million times a day.)
