Whatever the shape of our politics moving forward, it cannot be about appealing to "better natures". Even those not in power, even "everyday" voters have proven themselves unwilling to entertain such arguments. Trying to guilt people into social change is a thing of the past.

The point about empathy and baring our trauma not being effective in moving legislators really stuck with me. It's true about the tragedies that occur when women are denied abortions, as well as the suffering of trans children denied the healthcare they need. We recount our trauma. We are ignored.
