My favorite villains to read (or watch) are best comparable to a leviathan in a still sea. You catch a glimmer every now and then of who they truly are, but there's always more beneath the surface. One of my fears as a writer is that I'm giving too much away too soon,
Show Postbut I've learned there's a balance to be had. Readers I've learned also don't like having *no* grasp of their villain, and I as the writer already know how all the pieces connect in the end. I think it also depends on the kind of story you want to tell.
Show PostI have a soft spot for suspense, but obviously not every story calls for that. 😅 I think maybe what makes the best villains is how well they hold a mirror to humanity, and especially the hero(es). ...And how well they play the game of tactical pursuit. 😁
